Cars that runs by batteries

Do you think some where in the near futur we will no longer need gas to run our cars.
With the price of gas like it is now, and if it keeps goign up , there will hardly be any car on the raods.
what's the next thing, cars only going to roll off the line that runs by batteries.
What do you think about the gas prices and where is gas going to be like in the future?
